過去在各個旅遊部落格裡面，國泰的頭等艙一直是公認最佳的產品之一，也是評價最穩定的航空公司之一。所以這次從紐約回台北，就特別決定搭乘國泰，體驗一下傳說中的國泰頭等艙。也剛好國泰在最後一刻通常都會大方出清哩程票空位，這次我和一位同事一起搭機回台灣，要在出發前幾天找到兩個頭等艙空位一點都不困難。所以如果時間彈性、願意等到最後一刻才訂票的話，其實國泰的獎勵機票並不會特別難訂。從北美經香港轉機到台灣，如果用美國航空（AA）哩程換票，單程只要 67,500 哩，也算是非常划算的兌換比例。
Prior to this trip, I've already read so many reports about Cathay Pacific's First Class service. It was recognized by many travel bloggers as one of the best and most consistent airlines and I was really looking forward to try it out. So on my return from New York to Taipei I took the chance and booked an award ticket. CX consistently release their seats for last minute awards. So it wasn't hard at all to snatch two seats (I was travelling with a colleague) just days before departure. If you have a flexible schedule and are willing to wait until the last minute, First Class award tickets aren't hard to come by. And if you use AAdvantage miles, it would only cost 67,500 miles from New York to Taipei via Hong Kong, which I consider to be a fantastic price.

國泰在紐約甘迺迪機場使用的是英國航空（BA）的主場第七航廈，其實整個航廈稍嫌老舊，不過在規劃上商務艙、頭等艙有自己的報到區域，隱藏在航廈的最左邊，所以能保有一定程度的隱私和便利性。也許也是因為這個報到區太隱秘的關係，使用的人不多，完全不需要排隊。只是報到到一半發生了一點小意外，因為航廈的電源出狀況，所有報到櫃檯全部跳電，所以大約等了十五分鐘左右才完成報到手續。
Cathay Pacific uses JFK's terminal 7, which is mainly used by British Airways. The terminal was quite dated. but it had a separate check-in area for First and Business Class passengers at the far left of the terminal. The place was quite secluded, maybe even a bit too secluded because I didn't see many people using it when I was there. Naturally there was absolutely no wait, but we experienced a minor glitch during check-in. There was something wrong with the power and all the counters got shut off for about 15 minutes or so.

Usually First and Business Class passengers get a separate security line here, and there was a large seating area near the entrance. But BA did not have any of their own flights out of JFK during that time of the day, so the priority line was not open and we had to join the general line. Luckily the line was also short and we got through quite quickly.

既然第七航廈是 BA 的主場，貴賓室自然也是使用 BA 的貴賓室囉。不過其實這間頭等艙貴賓室，並不會給 BA 自家的頭等艙乘客使用（他們用的是更高級的 Concorde Room），而是專供聯盟航空公司的頭等艙乘客，還有寰宇一家綠寶石卡客使用的。因此整個貴賓室的品質也就比較差強人意，不論是在設備、裝潢、食物上，都不會讓人覺得是一間好的頭等艙貴賓室。
Since Terminal 7 was BA's territory, naturally we were invited to use BA's First Class lounge, which was not a "real" First Class lounge. BA's own First Class passengers use a separate "Concorde Room," and this "First Class Lounge" is actually for partner airlines and OneWorld Emeralds. So the overall quality of the lounge was less satisfying, and did not feel very "First Class" in terms of the decor, food, etc.

整間貴賓室空間並不大，但相對使用的人也不多，整段時間大約也只有五六位旅客而已。但食物的選擇上也就跟著縮水了，在早餐時段只有簡單的選擇，完全沒有熱食。除了燻鮭魚還不錯之外，其他食物的口味也都很普通。
It was not a large lounge, but there wasn't many people using it anyway. I only saw about five to six other passengers when I was there. But the food was also "downgraded" along with the number of guests. Breakfast options were quite limited and did not include any hot options, and everything, except the smoked salmon, did not taste very well too.

為了能夠準時登機拍照，我大約在登機時間五分鐘前就已經從貴賓室出發前往登機門。不過到了的時候登機看起來是已經開始一段時間了。再加上這次只有使用一個空橋，所以整個登機的速度非常緩慢，過了許久才有辦法真的踏上飛機。
I headed to the gate about five minutes before scheduled boarding because I wanted to have enough time to take pictures. But boarding was already well under way when I got there. Plus there was only one jetbridge in use so boarding was quite slow. It took me quite a while before I finally got on the plane.

但是一踏進機艙之後，國泰的服務品質就立即顯現出來了。在門口的空服員一看到我的登機證，立刻請負責頭等艙的空服員來親自引導我前往我的位置，也詢問了我的迎賓飲料選擇（當然選香檳囉）。也趁著這個機會，我趕快在空無一人的頭等艙拍了不少照片。國泰現在正在進行頭等艙的翻修作業，但其實只有簡單的微調座位的布料、色調、控制器等等，其實並沒有太大的差別。這次雖然是搭到尚未更新的舊型頭等艙，看起來還是非常舒適的。1-1-1的配置讓整個機艙看起來非常寬敞，座位也是寬到坐得下兩個人都不嫌擁擠。即便不是有拉門的套房類型，也都還是保有了足夠的隱私。坐在自己位子上時，是看不到其他乘客的。而因為整個頭等艙只有六個座位，感覺上也非常地私密。在硬體上唯一比較可惜的地方，大概是置物空間稍嫌不足。除了座位前方有一個大型的行李櫃（可放登機箱和一些衣物），其他小型的置物空間其實很少。
Once I stepped in the cabin, Cathay Pacific's service stood out immediately. Once the attendant at the door saw my boarding pass, she called over the First Class FA to guide us to our seats, and asked what we'd like to drink (champagne, please!). I took the chance and took some pictures of the empty cabin. CX is currently refreshing their First Class cabins, but it is only a minor update changing the fabric, color scheme, and seat controls. Even though I got the "old" First Class, it was still very comfortable. There were only six seats in a 1-1-1 layout, so the whole cabin was extremely spacious, and the seats were wide enough to fit two people comfortably. Even though they were not fully enclosed suites with doors, all the seats were still very private. I could not see any other passenger when I was seated. The fact that there were only six seats also contributed to the privacy of the cabin. The only downside was that there wasn't much storage space available. Apart from the large closet (big enough for a carry-on and some clothes), there weren't many other storage space available.

等到我拍完照，空服員也就送上了迎賓飲料、熱毛巾，和簡單的開胃小點。不久之後也再補上了睡衣和盥洗包。PYE的睡衣絕對是我目前穿過最舒服的頭等艙睡衣，不論是新航或是泰航都無法相比。Ermenegildo Zegna也許外型上沒有Rimowa來得高級，但是裡面所附的Aesop備品我倒是很喜歡。
After I finished taking pictures, the FA started offering welcome drinks, hot towels, and amuse bouche. Pajamas and amenity kit also followed shortly. The pajamas were made by PYE and were without doubt the most comfortable pajamas I've ever wore, trumping Singapore and Thai's First Class pajamas. The amenity kit was Ermenegildo Zegna branded. It may not be a Rimowa kit, but I quite liked the Aesop products inside.

依照JFK的慣例，起飛的隊伍一向都是大塞車，不過這次特別嚴重，我們大概比預定時間晚了一個小時左右才終於起飛。也是因為這樣，等到安全帶指示燈熄滅之後，早午餐的服務也就立刻開始了。一開始的飲料我點了國泰著名的 Cathay Delight，同事則點了港式奶茶。Cathay Delight是由奇異果和椰子為底的飲料，果然是名不虛傳非常好喝。但相較之下港式奶茶就完全比不上一般港式奶茶的水準了。除此之外，早午餐可說是非常完美。不管是水果盤、果汁，或是主餐的港式點心和西式早餐都非常好吃。就連吐司都烤得恰到好處！
As usual, there was a long cue for take-off at JFK. Today was particularly bad though, it took us almost an hour to finally take off. So all the staffs started brunch service right after the seat-belt sign was turned off. I started with a glass of Cathay Delight and my colleague ordered the Hong Kong Milk Tea. Cathay Delight was a mix of Kiwi and Coconut juice and was fantastic. On the other hand, their Hong Kong Milk Tea cannot compare to the usual standards at all, sadly. Other than that, Brunch was quite perfect. The fruit plate, juice, Dim Sum and Western breakfast were all tasty. Even the toast were just right.

頭等艙主要有兩位空服員負責。感覺比較資深的那位服務非常完美，在表現專業時也非常親切，對於友善和「太過友善」之間的拿捏也恰到好處，是這次國泰頭等艙之旅中最讓人印象深刻的地方。相較之下另外一位比較年輕的空服員，雖然還是非常專業，但就沒有那麼友善，16小時的飛行中好像還沒有看過她微笑過一次，也不太會和我們閒聊。至於座艙長有在送飲料時和我們簡短聊了一下，歡迎我們搭乘頭等艙，但之後的旅程中就沒有再看到她了。而不知道是不是因為兩位空服員要同時服務今天四位乘客的關係，感覺在送餐時整個服務流程稍嫌倉促了一些，但我自己是覺得無傷大雅啦。
There were too FAs serving the First Class cabin. The more "senior" one was just perfect. She was professional, kind, and kept the perfect balance between being friendly and "too" friendly. She was easily the best part of this flight. In comparison, the younger one, while still being quite professional, was much less friendly. I don't think I've ever saw her smile even once during the 16-hour flight, and she never chatted with us. As for the purser, she welcomed us on board during drink service and talked briefly with us, and that was the last time I saw her. I'm not sure if it was because there were four passengers on board today, but the meal service also felt a bit rushed. I couldn't care less though since I enjoyed it quite a lot.

在用餐完畢之後，空服員知道我們還沒有加入國泰的Marco Polo Club，也特地送了一份申請書給我，說明因為是搭乘頭等艙的關係，原本50美金的入會費是可以優惠免除的！同時我也請她幫我鋪好的床，本來打算好好休息一下。不過因為有一位乘客一直沒有把窗簾關上的關係，整個機艙一直都維持著跟白天一樣亮的感覺，實在是很難入眠。雖然這麼寬的座椅換成床之後，真的是非常寬敞舒適，但最後我只睡了大概兩小時左右，就決定起來「試吃」一下國泰備受好評的點心菜單了。我一開始先點了煲仔飯配雞湯，後來又點了牛肉湯麵，兩樣都非常好吃。
After bruch service ended, the senior FA also handed each of us an application to join Cathay Pacific's Marco Polo Club since she knew we haven't joined yet. She also told us that since we were flying First Class today, the usual $50 fee would be waived. As I filled out the form, I requested turndown service hoping to get some rest. But I ended up not getting much sleep because one of the passengers kept his window shades wide open throughout the flight, making it very hard to sleep. So even though the bed was unrealistically wide and comfortable, I only managed to sleep for about two hours, and decided to get up and "sample" some of CX's snack menu. The hot pot rice and beef noodle soup were both very good.

這段時間既然睡不著，我也就趁機看了幾部電影。國泰的CX Studio種類齊全，我認為是可以有和新航Krisworld平起平坐的水準。在看電影的時候我也發現，通常國泰的空服員是會留在galley裡等乘客有需要時按呼叫鈕才迅速出現的（據說是維持乘客的隱私度）。不過至少在這次航程中，我還是有注意到組員會三不五時偷偷觀察一下乘客的動態，確定有沒有任何需求。這是和其他人的經驗比較不一樣的地方。
Since I couldn't sleep anymore, I took the chance to watch some movies. Cathay Pacific's CX Studio had a very wide selection available that matches the standard of Singapore's Krisworld. As I was watching the movies, I also noticed that the crew would sometimes discreetly peek in to monitor the guests and see if we needed anything during the flight. This was quite different from what I've heard from other trip reports. Usually the crew would hide in the galley and wait for you to press the call button (to maximize privacy), but that was not the case this time.

在幾部電影之後，不知不覺也到了降落前兩小時的「午餐」時間。這次就是完整的正餐，以國泰全新的魚子醬服務打頭陣了。其實我本來很期待原本國泰特有，還會附上鮭魚切片的魚子醬。不過新的魚子醬搭配上所有的配料，也是讓人無可挑剔。湯品因為不太喜歡白蘆筍湯，所以特地換成了中式的雞湯，也是相當完美。配上大塊龍蝦肉的沙拉更是一絕。可惜主菜成了這餐的敗筆。不管是我點的鱈魚或是我同事點的牛排都相當讓人失望，不只是過熟，調味也有待加強。還好國泰又在甜點扳回了一城。空服員隨機發揮將各式莓果配上冰淇淋，意外成了非常讓人驚艷的搭配。
After a couple movies, it was already two hours before landing and "lunch" service started. This time it was a full meal starting with Cathay Pacific's brand new caviar service. Actually I was quite looking forward to their old caviar service with balik salmon, but the new caviar with all the garnishes were also quite good. I opted for the Chinese soup and it was perfect as well. The salad with lobster was also fantastic. Sadly the main was the worst part of this meal. I ordered the cod and my colleague ordered the steak and they were both disappointing. They were overcooked and poorly seasoned. Though they did redeem themselves with dessert. Our FA spontaneously offered ice cream to go with the mixed berries, and they complimented each other surprisingly well.

餐後不久也就準備降落，結束這段讓人難忘的旅程了。從紐約到香港這段沒有意外的話，應該是國泰最長的航班之一，所以非常適合好好體驗國泰的頭等艙服務。而最後除了一些小地方稍微讓人失望之外，整體還是非常好的一次經驗，證明國泰在各方面上都還有一定的實力。就像我在一個英文旅遊部落格上看到的評語一樣，國泰也許在不同面向上都不是第一名，但整體絕對是非常頂尖且穩定的一間航空公司。
After lunch we were ready to land and that concluded this memorable journey. The flight from New York to Hong Kong, if I remember correctly, is one of CX's longest flights, so it was perfect to experience their First Class service. The bottom line is: except some minor disappointments, the overall experience was very good. CX really did well in every aspect. Just like a travel blogger had pointed out, CX may not be the best in all fields, but it was definitely one of the top airlines and delivers the most consistent service.

在快速逛了一圈香港市區之後，我就回到了香港機場準備搭機回台灣。國泰在香港機場設有頭等艙的專屬報到區，隨時都有非常多的地勤人員在幫忙服務，手續都進行得非常快。不過比起其他航空公司（像是新航或泰航）有獨立的報到空間，其實國泰是還有一些改進的空間。
After a quick stroll around Hong Kong, I got back to Hong Kong Airport for my flight back to Taiwan. Cathay Pacific has a check-in area for First Class passengers, and it was very well-staffed with plenty of counters, so everything went smoothly. But compared to its competitors (Singapore or Thai, for example) with separate check-in facilities, there's still some room for improvement.

The entrance to security was actually quite close to First Class check-in. And after security and passport control, it was only a quick left turn to the famous The Wing First Class Lounge.

不得不說寰宇堂是一間非常美的貴賓室，裝潢是可以用「性感」來形容的，但同時也不失頭等貴賓室該有的奢華感。一進入貴賓室之後映入眼簾的是香檳吧（共有提供三種香檳），再來則是座位區，然後經過吧台之後就能來到專屬的餐廳。
I have to say that The Wing was a gorgeous lounge, the decor was very "sexy," if that could be used to describe a lounge, yet at the same time it still felt very luxurious. Right after the entrance was the champagne bar (offering three types of champagne), then there was a large seating area, followed by a bar and restaurant.

國泰在香港的貴賓室由半島酒店提供外燴，食物選擇非常多，也有另外提供菜單可以單點。可惜這次造訪覺得食物口味並沒有特別突出，另外餐廳的服務也沒有特別好。除了剛入座時服務生有來詢問想要什麼飲料跟餐點之外，就沒有再有什麼服務了。比起國泰在機上的水準，地面上的服務仍然有待加強。
Cathay Pacific's lounges in Hong Kong are catered by the Peninsula, so there were many food options and also a separate menu you can order from. But the taste wasn't as good as I expected though, and the service wasn't particularly good as well. The server came once to take my food and drink order after I was seated, but that was it. Compared to their service in the air, CX's ground service leaves a lot to be desired.

這次到寰宇堂最期待的也是使用他們著名的「浴泉居」。我一進到貴賓室就先去登記了，但還是等了大約三十分鐘才終於排到一間，但不得不說「浴泉居」是絕對值得等待的！它絕對是我看過最美也最奢侈的機場淋浴間。浴缸大到根本是一個小型游泳池，總共三種不同的淋浴設計也讓人驚艷。真的是一間完美的浴室啊！
What I looked forward to the most was the cabanas here at The Wing. I registered for one the moment I got to the lounge, but still had to wait for about thirty minutes before one became available. Needless to say it was well worth the wait. The cabana was surely the most beautiful and extravagant airport shower room I've ever seen. The bathtub was so large it could pass as a plunge pool. There were also three different showers available. The cabana was really nothing but perfect.

因為我的同事並沒有一起去香港市區，所以通過轉機安檢之後就直接前往距離比較近的玉衡堂。可惜玉衡堂的頭等貴賓室正在整修，所以只能使用商務貴賓室中一個隔出來的空間，並沒有什麼特別的地方。只能放幾張鮮蝦雲吞麵和點心的照片，據同事說餐點味道都很好。
My colleague did not leave the airport like I did, and went to the Pier, CX's other lounge which was right after security. But the First Class section was closed for renovation at the time, so there was only one roped-off area in the Business Class lounge and it was nothing special. He did take a couple pictures of the shrimp wonton noodle soup and Dim Sim, which according to him were both quite tasty.

這次難得可以搭到國泰的747頭等艙。因為國泰已經逐步在準備淘汰747機隊，所以未來能夠搭到的機會應該會越來越少了。國泰的747共設置九個頭等艙座位，比起77W多出三席，但還是維持很不錯的私密度和空間。如果兩個人一起旅行的話，最推薦選擇1A和1K這兩個位置。另外747的廁所也比77W稍大一些，還有窗戶可以欣賞機外風景，是和77W最不同的地方。
I lucked out this time to fly CX's 747. Since they are in the process of eliminating their 747 fleet, it would be much harder to get one in the future. CX has nine first class seats in the nose of their 747, which is three more seats than their 77W fleet. But it was still very spacious and private though. 1A and 1K would be the best seats if travelling together. The lavatory on the 747 was also slightly larger than the one on the 77W, and had windows as well.

非常幸運的是這次頭等艙只有我們兩位，所以能夠完全獨享整個頭等艙，還有享受兩位頭等艙空服員的專屬服務，覺得非常尊榮！當然也是因為這樣，服務完全好到沒話說。居然能在短短一個小時左右的時間內提供三道菜的頭等艙餐點，比起搭經濟艙的時候拿到的三明治，完全是不同世界啊！
Luckily there were no other passengers today and we had the cabin and two FAs all to ourselves. Needless to say service couldn't be better. They even managed to pull off a three-course First Class meal in about one hour. It was a completely different world compared to the sandwich I got when I was in economy.

This was without doubt the best flight I took between Taipei and Hong Kong. Even though it was delayed since boarding, and was about one hour late in the end. But I enjoyed every second of it and did not mind the delay at all.
