台北文華東方在2014年開幕之後，就一直穩居台北最奢華飯店的龍頭。無奈過去一直找不到適合的時間（跟價位）入住。好不容易等到飯店開幕周年推出特別優惠，才下訂一間房，選擇在生日當天好好體驗一下。
Since it first opened its doors in 2014, the Mandarin Oriental Taipei has been known as the most luxurious hotel in Taipei, and I've always wanted to try it out, but never found the right time (and price) to do so. The opportunity finally arrived when the hotel ran an anniversary promotion, and I immediately booked a stay on my birthday as a way to celebrate.

在台北街頭，其實台北文華東方的外觀就已經非常搶眼。特別的建築外觀，在周遭的辦公大樓中獨樹一格，營造出奢華的歐洲風格。在台灣，文華東方並不是唯一嘗試這樣建築風格的飯店，但不論在建築的細節、選材、配色上，都可以看出文華東方的典雅品味，完全擺脫其他同類型飯店刻意模仿歐風時，常出現的庸俗感。
The hotel itself is a really unique building in Taipei, as its architectural style stood out amongst the surrounding office buildings in the area. The Mandarin Oriental Taipei is certainly not the first hotel to try to build an European-style building in Taiwan, but the hotel exceeded all its rivals with superior taste in every aspect of the building's details. Many hotels ended up with a very tacky product when trying to go for an European style, but that is certainly not the case here.

為了增加房客隱私，飯店的入口並不是設在大街上。所以如果是步行前往，可以穿過「The Arcade」的大門後，跟著指標就會到飯店入口了。
In order to maximize privacy, the hotel's entrance is not on the main street. So if you're walking to the hotel, just go inside "the Arcade" and follow the signs to the hotel.

飯店入口隨時都會有門房守候。我都還沒有靠近大門，他就已經主動上前，堅持地接過我的行李，然後引導我到大廳辦理入住。
The hotel entrance is always staffed with at least one doorman. He approached me before I was even near the door, insisted on taking my luggage for me, and escorted me to the lobby for check-in.

光走進大廳，就可以立刻感受到文華東方的奢華風格。巨大的水晶燈由捷克藝術家 Tafana Dvorakova 設計，總共有超過五萬顆水晶。大廳的兩張高背座椅，也是許多房客選擇合影留念的地方。
The moment I stepped into the lobby I was immersed in the luxuriousness of the Mandarin Oriental. The gigantic chandelier was designed by Czech artist Tafana Dvorakova and has more than 50,000 crystals. The two high-back chairs in the lobby also make a perfect place for a photo op for visitors.

辦理入住的櫃檯則是在大廳旁的另一個獨立空間，裡面也擺放了幾張座椅，讓房客在辦理手續時可以坐下等待。其實以文華東方的定位跟目標客群，其實可以考慮向瑞吉（St. Regis）學習，將所有櫃檯調整成可以坐下的書桌型式，會讓整個經驗更親近一些。
The check-in lobby is actually a separate space next to the main lobby, with some chairs placed in it so guests get to sit down and wait. They could have improved the experience even further, in my opinion, and go for a sit-down check in like the St. Regis. The experience would be much more personalized than a traditional counter.

辦完手續之後，會有專人引導前往房間。這次預訂的是行政樓層，被安排在最高樓層17樓的房間。相較於一般樓層挑高三米四，17樓特別挑高到四米五，感覺就額外寬闊舒適。如果未來有預訂行政樓層的房間，大家也記得一定要事先要求入住17樓的房間。
After completing the formalities, the agent personally escorted me to my room. I had booked a club room, so was assigned a room on the highest (17th) floor. Compared to the regular floor, which are 3.4 meters tall, this floor is 4.5 meters tall, so felt extra spacious and comfortable. I'd suggest everyone booking a club room to ask for a room on the 17th floor in advance.

在飯店走廊的設計上，也可以看出文華東方對於細節的用心跟品味。我特別喜歡他們選用的地毯，非常符合飯店的風格跟奢華定位。
The design of the hallway also showed the MO's attention to detail and its unique taste. I especially admired their choice of carpet, which really matches the hotels style and luxuriousness.

台北文華東方的另一個特點，就是所有房間都比其他五星級飯店來得大。光是標準房型就有17坪，在其他飯店，可能已經是套房才有的大小了。
One of the main features of the Mandarin Oriental Taipei is that its rooms are larger than other five-star hotels in Taipei. Just the standard room is close to 600 sqf (55 sqm), about the same size as a junior suite in other hotels.

台北文華東方的客房在玄關處都有一個收件箱。如果有擦鞋或是送洗等等的需求，只要把東西擺在收件箱後，按下按鈕，就會有人來收取了。之後歸還物品時也會把東西放回收件箱，所以從頭到尾都不需要和工作人員互動到，在提供服務時還完全確保了客人的隱私。
The hotels also has a valet box at the entrance of each room. If you need any service such as shoe-shining or laundry, just place the item in the box, press the button, and someone would come and retrieve it. The item will also be returned in the same way, so no personal interaction is ever needed in the entire process, offering complete privacy for guests.

穿過玄關之後就可以看到廁所。豪華客房的設計上比較奇怪的地方，就是廁所和浴室是分開的（而且因為房間太大，隔得有點遠）。
Through the entrance is the toilet, which is a odd design in the deluxe rooms as the toilet is separated from the rest of the bathroom (and they're quite far apart due to the size of the room).

不過馬桶居然不是免治馬桶，倒是讓我驚訝了一下。還以為在台北頂級飯店中，免治馬桶已經是標準配備了呢。
To be honest I was shocked to find that the toilet was not a Japanese bidet toilet, which I thought was a standard equipment nowadays in high-end hotels in Taipei.

首先先參觀浴室，浴室有拉門可以關上，門上特別裝上紗簾，看起來更增添了些典雅風格。
The bathroom had a sliding door with sheer installed on it, which added some more elegance to the room in my opinion.

浴室的裝潢更是十分氣派。除了沒有雙洗手台有點可惜之外，沒什麼好挑剃的。
The decor of the bathroom was even better. I have nothing to criticize except the fact that the lack of double sinks was a slight disappointment, not that it should be expected in a standard room anyway.

There were also three different kind of bath salt placed next to the bathtub, which was the most extensive I've seen in any hotel.

如果你看到標題寫著行政都會套房，卻納悶我為什麼到現在都還在介紹豪華客房的話，你現在就看到原因了。沒錯，在拍衣櫃的時候，我發現裡面還有前一位房客留下來的衣物！
這無疑是我在入住的眾多飯店中，遇過最嚴重的客房整理疏失，更沒有想到會在號稱台北最頂級的台北文華東方發生，當下其實心情是很震驚的。不過為了完成介紹，還是要先把房間拍完再說。
If at this point you're wondering why I kept writing about a deluxe room when the title says city suite, here's the answer. That's right, there's a piece of clothing from the previous occupant left in the drawer!
It was without doubt the most serious housekeeping mistake I've ever encountered in all my hotel stays, and I was truly shocked at the moment. But for the sake of completing this review, I quickly gathered myself and continued photographing the rest of the room :P

在臥室的裝潢上，台北文華東方運用了大量的金黃色增加奢華感，卻不會因此顯得俗氣，是我覺得非常了不起的地方。所有的抱枕、裝飾枕也都非常恰好地點綴了房內每個地方。
In terms of the decor of the bedroom, the Mandarin Oriental Taipei used a great deal of yellow and gold to enhance the luxuriousness, but I was most impressed that it didn't came out as tacky. And I loved all the decorative pillows placed in the room that really fitted beautifully with the rest of the room.

另外因為是在生日入住的關係，飯店也主動準備了一個生日蛋糕跟卡片。讓人特別覺得貼心。
Since I was staying on my birthday, they proactively prepared a birthday cake and a hand-written card for me, which was very thoughtful.

當然，該反應的問題還是要反應。在終於拍完整間房間之後，我就直接撥了電話到飯店前台，告訴他們衣櫃裡還遺留內褲的狀況。當然以一間五星級飯店（應該說任何飯店）來說，這樣的狀況是完全不能接受的，所以值班經理也迅速到了房間來親自道歉。然後邀請我先到行政貴賓廳「東方匯」休息，讓飯店人員處理所有換房的工作，包括幫忙搬好我的所有行李。
With all that aside, the hotel's major miss in housekeeping couldn't be ignored. I phoned the front desk after finish photographing the room and told them the situation. And within minutes the manager on duty was personally in my room (which was to be expected since any hotel would consider a major issue). She apologized profusely and invited me to rest in the hotel's club lounge "Oriental Lounge" while they handle my room change, including moving all my luggage for me.

如果有計劃入住台北文華東方的話，我十分推薦多花一點錢訂行政樓層的房間。台北文華東方的行政貴賓廳「東方匯」無疑是至今最讓我滿意的行政酒廊了。不論是硬體設備、食物、服務通通好到沒話說。
I'd highly recommend anyone who plan to stay at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei to spend a little more and book one of their club rooms. The club lounge here, "Oriental Lounge," was without doubt the best club lounge I've ever experienced. Everything, from the hard product to its food and service were all top notch.

They even had some reading glasses placed next to the newspaper & magazine rack. It's exactly this level of service that made the Mandarin Oriental unique.

這時候剛好是下午茶時間，服務生一看到我靠近，就主動介紹了他們的各種飲料，然後幫我泡了一壺茶。在這裡其實想喝飲料都不需要自己動手準備的，幾乎是隨時都會有服務生在這裡待命，不管是泡咖啡、泡茶，或是想喝其他飲料，都會有專人幫忙準備。
It happened to be afternoon tea hours, and one of the staffs proactively gave me a tour of all their drink selection, and offered me some tea. I never had to make my own drink when in the lounge, as someone would always be there to assist me with my order, including tea, coffee, or other drinks.

不久之後負責行政貴賓廳的經理就來通知我新房間已經準備好了，也再度道歉了一次。他告訴我因為17樓已經客滿，沒辦法安排一樣在17樓的房間，但幫我升等到了行政都會套房。
當然，能升等到套房還是比較重要的囉，有沒有挑高就不那麼重要了。
It didn't take long before the manager of the lounge came to tell me my new room was ready, and apologized again for the incident. He told me the 17th floor was fully occupied so they couldn't get another room on the 17th floor, but upgraded me to a club city suite instead.
When you're upgraded to a suite, the height of the room really didn't matter that much anymore.

書桌旁的這個收納櫃倒是一般房型沒有的，裡面統一收納了在一般房型裡面放在各處的文具組（有訂書機了！）、接線等等。
There's a small storage drawer that was unique to the suites, offering a single place to store the stationary set (with a stapler!) and cables.

都會套房的浴室就比豪華客房大上許多，不僅有雙洗手台跟廁所，還多了一台電視。
The bathroom in the City Suite was much larger than the deluxe room. Not only did it have double sinks and toilet, it also had a television inside.

只是電視的位置有點奇怪，是放在靠門邊的位置，從浴缸是看不太到的。
Though the TV was placed next to the door, which was an odd position since it wasn't visible from the bathtub.

台北文華東方的套房浴室，還有另外一項特色，就是大理石地板具有「地暖」的設計，避開了洗完澡還要踏到冰冷地板的狀況，是非常貼心的一項設備。
Another main feature of the suite master bathrooms at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei was that the marble floors were heated, so you won't be stepping on cold floor after a shower. It was a really nice and thoughtful feature.

接著就是臥室了。值得注意的是，套房的床頭壁紙顏色和一般房是不一樣的，因此裝飾枕也有跟著變換，這樣對設計細節的重視相當值得稱讚。
Then there's the bedroom. It's worth noting that the color of the wallpaper in the suite was different, and therefore the decorative pillows were also changed accordingly. Kudos to the hotel for their attention to detail.

臥室角落還有一個有點不尋常的躺椅空間，不過倒是很適合白天時躺在這邊看書。
There was an odd day bed-ish space at the corner of the bedroom, I had no idea what it was for but found it quite suitable for lounging and reading during the day.

在豪華客房中放在更衣間裡的梳妝台，則是挪到了臥室窗邊，還可以遠眺台北101。
The vanity, which was placed in the walk-in closet in the deluxe room, was moved to face the bedroom window, and had a view of Taipei 101.

台北文華東方在東方匯提供的是 Ruinart 香檳，每瓶市價大約2000~2500台幣，也是我在眾多行政酒廊中看過提供最高檔的香檳。
The Oriental Lounge offered Ruinart champagne, which retailed at about 2000~2500 TWD in Taiwan (around 70~80 USD), and was the most expensive champagne I've seen offered in a hotel club lounge.

吃飽喝足之後，就在飯店稍微晃了一下，順便參觀一下商務中心。商務中心是24小時開放，只要刷房卡就能進入。有兩台電腦跟印表機可以使用。白天的時段應該是有專人服務，但夜間並沒有人駐守。不過如果有什麼需要，還是只要撥通電話就可以了。
After all the food and drinks I decided to take a stroll in and around the hotel, and visit the business center. The business center here was open 24 hours and could be accessible by swiping my key card. There were two computers and printer available, and should be staffed during the day. Although nobody was there during the night, I trust that nothing was more than a phone call away.

回到房間之後，發現房務人員已經悄悄完成了開床服務。台北文華東方的開床服務也是我看過做得最確實的。不只在床邊鋪好踏墊、擺上拖鞋，浴室各處也都有鋪上踏墊。
I returned to my room discovering that turn down service was already completed. Turn down service at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei was also amongst the best I've seen. Not only did they have mats and slippers next to the bed, they also placed some in the bathroom.

There was also a separate breakfast menu, with lots of Chinese and Western options other than the usual made-to-order eggs.

我點了一份蛋白蛋捲、雞湯、法式吐司跟一籠港式點心。每一樣都很好吃。
I ordered an egg white omelette, chicken soup, french toast, and dim sum. Everything was delicious and cooked perfectly.

在吃了這麼多之後，總是要稍微運動一下，也趁機參觀飯店的公共設施，包括健身房跟游泳池。
After eating all that food it was time for some exercise, and I took the opportunity to check out the hotel's facilities, including the gym and swimming pool.

台北文華東方的健身房佔地非常大，設備也相當齊全，而且既然是剛開幕沒多久的飯店，當然也都是最新的設備。
The gym at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei was really large and well equipped. And of course everything was brand new considering the hotel was only one year old.

In addition to free bottled water, the hotel also had headphones available for guests.

游泳池則是位於戶外庭園裡，旁邊有許多不同的躺椅可以休息，同時也有好幾位工作人員隨時服務。
The pool, on the other hand, was at the outdoor rooftop garden, and had a wide range of seating placed around it. The pool was also had a large number of staffs there, and they were always ready to assist.

但游泳池其實緊鄰隔壁的辦公大樓，也就是說從大樓裡應該是可以隨時看到游泳池裡的一舉一動，感覺不是很有隱私。
However, the pool was rather uncomfortably close to the adjacent office building, making everything that's happening in the pool visible from the building.

The changing room, though, was very nicely decorated, and had all the amenities one may need.

因為行政樓層最晚可以延遲退房到下午六點，難得入住當然是要一直在房間待到最後一刻才退房了。比較讓我驚喜的是，當我到東方匯辦理退房的時候，剛好又到了晚間的雞尾酒時光。通常這時候飯店也不會再邀請就要退房的房客使用行政酒廊，不過沒想到服務人員還是很有禮貌地主動邀請我，再到裡面喝點飲料再走。也是這樣的熱情，特別讓人有自己真的很被重視的、賓至如歸的感受。
Since I got to receive a late check-out to as late as 6 pm, I of course decided to stay until the very last minute before heading to the lounge to check out. It was evening happy hour again when I was checking out, and I was very surprised when the staff invited me to go in and have some drink and snacks before I leave, as most hotels do not allow guests in the lounge after check-out. It was exactly this passion and kindness expressed by the staffs that made me feel valued and pampered here.

在實際入住台北文華東方之後，終於能夠理解為什麼它能被稱為台北最頂級的飯店了。不論在軟硬體，都比其他飯店高出一個層次。在服務上對於細節的注重，還有每一位服務人員真心的熱情款待，都讓整個住宿體驗十分完美。雖然說在房務整理上出現了難以想像的失誤，不過事後的補正也非常迅速而且到位，不會讓人有任何不愉快的感受。台北文華東方開幕至今獲得的盛名跟評價，絕對是實至名歸。
After personally staying at the Mandarin Oriental Taipei, I finally understood why it was called the best hotel in Taipei. The hotel was truly in its own league in both hard and soft product. The attention to detail in service, and the passion expressed by all the staffs made my stay perfect. Even though they had a major fail in housekeeping, the problem was corrected swiftly and adequate compensation was offered without delay, so I didn't feel that I had a less than perfect stay in any way. The hotel absolutely deserved the fame it has received since its opening.
