在華盛頓特區跟紐約短暫停留幾晚之後，就來到了這次旅程中最讓人期待的一段航程：搭乘德航 747-400 頭等艙。德航在 747-400 的頭等艙位於上層客艙，而且有著「座位+床」的獨特設計，一直是飛行常客們的夢幻產品之一。可惜的是，德航在2015年中後，就開始準備逐步停售 747-400 頭等艙，所以非得要在還搭得到之前，趕快來搭一下。
After a few nights in D. C. and New York, it's time for the most exciting part of the trip - flying Lufthansa's 747-400 First Class. Lufthansa puts its First Class cabin on the upper deck of the 747-400, and has the unique "seat+bed" design, which made it one of the dream products among frequent flyers. Sadly Lufthansa started discontinuing their First Class service onboard the 747-400. So I just HAD to experience it before it's gone.

波士頓國際機場應該算是主要城市中，機場離市區最近的城市之一。從車站搭公車到機場，大約只要 15 分鐘而已。來到 E 航廈之後，也可以很輕易地找到德航的櫃檯。
Of all the major airports in the U. S., Boston Logan Airport is perhaps one of the closest to the city. It's only a 15-minute bus ride from South Station, and the Lufthansa counters can also be easily found once you reach Terminal E.

可能是我到得特別早的關係，櫃檯前是完全空無一人的。地勤人員很快地就幫我印出了登機證。
Since I got there super early, the check-in area was completely deserted. It took them no time at all to print my boarding pass.

在 E 航廈裡，所有航空公司的貴賓室都是位於同一個區域，通過安檢之後跟著「Airline Clubs」標示左轉走到底，在搭電梯下樓，就可以到達。
All the airline lounges are located in the same area in Terminal E. Simply follow the "Airline Clubs" sign after security, take a left turn and walk all the way to the end to reach the elevators to the lounge.

德航在波士頓機場有自營的貴賓室，不過頭等艙並沒有獨立的空間，是和商務艙共用的。
Lufthansa operates its own lounge in Boston Logan Airport, but it's a shared lounge between First and Business Class, so there wasn't any dedicated space for First Class passengers.

貴賓室是很標準的德航設計，和其他地方的德航貴賓室都差不多。雖然空間看起來不大，但在尖峰時段也不至於完全找不到位子，座位設計上也有符合各種人數跟需求。
The lounge featured the signature Lufthansa design and was quite similar to other Lufthansa lounges. Even though it's not a huge lounge, there's no problem finding a seat even during rush hour, and there's all sorts of seating design for different group sizes and needs.

貴賓室內也有提供不同的冷、熱食。以美國境內的貴賓室來說，其實食物種類跟份量都很不錯。本來對於這間貴賓室的食物沒有抱著太大期望，沒想到結果並沒有讓人失望。
The lounge also had buffet with a variety of cold and hot food. For a lounge in the U. S., I think the food offering was impressive. I didn't have high hopes for this lounge, but everything turned out to be quite good.

What's great about Lufthansa's ground service is that even at outstations like Boston they'd still escort their first class customers from the lounge to the gate. So if you're flying first class, there's absolutely no need to worry about missing your flight or heading to the gate early for boarding. All you need to do is grab a drink and wait at the lounge until someone fetches you.

登上 747-400 上層甲板之後，真的有種美夢成真的感覺！每個座位都非常地寬敞，有獨立的床鋪更是無懈可擊地美好。期待了這麼久，終於搭上德航頭等艙，內心難免有些激動啊。
Boarding the upper deck of Lufthansa's 747-400 was like a dream come true. Every seat was super spacious and the separate bed was just too good to be true. It's an understatement to say that I was excited to finally flying in Lufthansa's First Class.

看到一整排四扇窗戶，就知道這個座位有多麼寬闊了！
You can instantly tell how spacious the seat was by seeing these four beautifully aligned windows.

床鋪下方還有一個算大的置物空間，除了登機箱放不下之外，一般的背包或是隨身物品，都可以放在這邊。
There's a large storage drawer under the bed, which fits pretty much anything except a rollaboard (you can always store that in the overhead compartment).

對於德航 747-400 頭等艙的硬體，如果真的要挑剃些什麼，那大概就是螢幕的畫質不太好吧。另外就是螢幕的位置無法移動，在床上想看電影的話，就會比較困難一點。
As far as the hard product goes in Lufthansa's 747-400 First Class, if I really had to nitpick, I'd say the screen could have a higher definition. It was also a bit disappointing that the screen doesn't rotate, making it slightly challenging to watch a movie while lying in bed.

扶手內除了餐桌之外，也有一個狹長型的置物空間，適合放一些雜誌，或是筆記型電腦等物品。
Apart from the dining table, there's also a storage compartment for magazines or laptops under the armrest.

另一邊扶手下則是放著 Bose 抗噪耳機，上面還印了德航頭等艙的字樣。

座位靠近腳部的地方，也有一個抽屜可以放鞋。

在我到處拍完照之後，空服員立刻送上一杯 Taittinger 香檳。德航連衛生紙上都有印上頭等艙字樣，好像很怕乘客不知道自己身在頭等艙一樣！
After I finished photographing everything, the flight attendant greeted me onboard with a glass of Taittinger champagne. It's amusing that Lufthansa even had "Lufthansa First Class" printed on their paper napkins, as if I needed to be reminded where I'm at.

每次搭頭等艙的時候，登機後就是不斷收到各種免費備品的時間。空服員再送上香檳之後，也立刻跟著發送了睡衣（上衣跟褲子分開裝）、拖鞋跟盥洗包。
Every time I fly first class I feel like I was showered by all sorts of freebies pre-departure. Naturally this time was no exception. After the champagne was delivered, the flight attendants distributed pajamas (with the shirt and trousers packed separately), slippers, and an amenity kit.

德航的頭等艙睡衣是跟 van Laack 合作，品質雖然沒有像是國泰頭等艙用的 PYE 睡衣一樣讓人印象深刻，但也還算不錯。而且這款睡衣比較輕薄一些，睡起來比較不會太熱。
Lufthansa's pajamas were van Laack branded, and though they weren't as impressive as Cathay Pacific's PYE pajamas, they were still quite comfortable. What I liked about them was that they were very light, so I didn't feel too hot sleeping in them.

德航的盥洗包有很多種，這次拿到的是與 Braun Buffel 合作的款式。
Lufthansa had a large variety of amenity kits, and this time I received the Braun Buffel branded one.

隨後空服員也發送了菜單跟酒單。我很喜歡德航的菜單設計，很大本而且紙質很好，再配合極簡風的設計，很符合德航的形象。
The flight attendants distributed the menu and wine list shortly after. I really liked Lufthansa's menu as they were large and the paper felt really nice. I think it really fits Lufthansa's image when paired with the simplistic design.

在完成這一大堆手續之後，班機剛好也準備起飛。因為航程其實不算太長，所以在起飛前，空服員就會先來接受點餐，在起飛之後，出餐的速度也都很快，才能讓旅客有多一點時間休息。
After all the "gifts" were distributed, the plane was ready for take-off. Since it's a relatively short ride, the flight attendants came to take orders before take-off, and the whole meal service was also completed really speedily so there's more time for passengers to rest.

首先送上的當然是一杯香檳搭配開胃小點。

此時空服員也在每個座位上都擺了一朵玫瑰花。讓整個頭等艙座位看起來又更典雅了一點。
At this time the flight attendants also placed roses at each seat, making the first class seats even more elegant.

接著就擺好餐具，準備用餐囉～在這邊讚賞一下德航的麵包，雖然看起來不太起眼，不過很好吃！
Then the table was set for meal service. I was pleasantly surprised by Lufthansa's bread. Even though they didn't look particularly good, but were quite tasty.

德航的魚子醬也是給得相當大方（甚至還會問我要不要續）。之前看過報導說德航是全世界最大的魚子醬客戶之一，大約佔全球魚子醬市場的 5%。從這次他們給的魚子醬份量，應該不難看出原因。
Lufthansa's caviar service was extremely generous (they even proactively offered me seconds). I remember reading somewhere that Lufthansa was one of the largest consumers of caviar, taking about 5% of the market each year. And it's not hard to know why just looking at the portion they serve.

沙拉更是一場大災難，不只賣相差，味道更差。只吃兩口之後就不想吃了。
The salad was a even bigger disaster. It looked unappetizing and tasted even worse. I asked the flight attendant to take it away just after a couple of bites.

常搭飛機的就會知道，在飛機上點牛排通常是很冒險的舉動。這次為了測試看看德航處理牛排的能力，就決定點了牛排。結果當然是...失敗，牛排完全過熟，大概只有旁邊的配菜比較好吃而已。
Those who fly frequently would know that ordering steak on a plane is a risky move. But I decided to give it a try and test how Lufthansa handles steak on board. The result? Fail! It was completely overcooked, and only the garnishes were edible.

到這裡就已經對德航頭等艙的食物差不多失去信心了。還好甜點還算OK，就把它當主餐給大口吃完了。
At this point I almost lost faith in Lufthansa's on board food. Luckily the dessert was nice, and I ate it all as if it was my main meal.

決定跳過起司盤，只跟空服員要了一些葡萄來吃。
I decided to skip the cheese course and only had some grapes.

吃飽後就到廁所簡單梳洗準備睡覺。德航 747-400 的頭等艙廁所也是佈置得很不錯，雖然看得出年紀，不過備品充足（特別喜歡他們的刮鬍刀跟 Evian 保濕噴霧），而且也有擺上一朵玫瑰花。
After the meal service I headed to the lavatory to get ready for bed. The First Class lavatories were nicely decorated as well. It was showing some age, but was well-stocked (I especially liked their razors and Evian water spray) and was also decorated with roses.

座位有獨立床鋪的好處就是完全不用等空服員鋪床，只要想睡的時候，翻個身就可以躺平了。而且有真正的床，舒適度也是完勝其他頭等艙用座位轉換成的床。這次一碰到床之後，立刻昏睡到被空服員叫醒吃早餐才清醒。
What's nice about having a separate bed was that I didn't have to wait for the flight attendants to make my bed, I got to jump in bed whenever I wanted. Having a real bed also beats all the other seat-converted first class beds in terms of comfort. I passed out the moment my head touched the pillows, and slept all the way until the flight attendant woke me up for breakfast.

此時已經飛過倫敦，距離法蘭克福大約只剩一個多小時了。
At that point we were already past London and was only slightly more than an hour away from Frankfurt.

早餐點了美式早餐，想不到居然是直接用托盤上餐，一瞬間還以為自己到了商務艙！至少這餐是絕對沒有達到頭等艙水準的。
I ordered the American breakfast, and was shocked to see that it was delivered in one tray. For a moment I thought I was in business class! The meal certainly did not feel first class at all.

不過早餐的味道倒是比上一餐好很多，至少這次是開開心心地把所有食物都吃完了。
Though it certainly tasted much better than the previous meal. At least I finished all the food this time.

初次體驗德航頭等艙，覺得在硬體上他們真的是無懈可擊，不過餐飲跟服務上都差強人意。當然看網路上其他的人的搭乘紀錄，也是有遇到很好的食物跟空服員過，所以可能看每一段航班，時好時壞的吧。期待下一段從法蘭克福飛回東京時會更好囉！
For my first flight with Lufthansa First Class, they passed with flying colors in terms of hard product, but underperformed in both food and service. Though judging from other trip reports online, they do have wonderful food and service sometimes, so I suppose it's YMMV when it comes to their soft product. Let's just hope they'd perform better on my next flight from Frankfurt to Tokyo!
